GPF Partners with Schools for Road Safety Education Drive

The Gambia Police Force Traffic Department has concluded a successful road safety education drive in partnership with secondary schools across the Greater Banjul Area. The initiative, which reached over 2,000 students, forms part of the GPF’s broader strategy to reduce road traffic accidents and build a culture of safe road use among young Gambians.

Officers from the Traffic Department visited twelve schools, delivering interactive sessions on road safety rules, the dangers of speeding and drunk driving, pedestrian safety, and the importance of wearing seatbelts. Students were also briefed on what to do in the event of a road traffic accident.

The Head of the Traffic Department noted that road traffic accidents remain one of the leading causes of injury and death in The Gambia. “Educating young people is the most effective long-term investment we can make in road safety,” he said.

The programme will be extended to other regions in the coming months. Schools wishing to participate are encouraged to contact the Traffic Department at +220 773 0230.
