The Gambia Police Force has issued a formal statement reaffirming its commitment to human rights-based policing in accordance with the Constitution of The Gambia and international human rights standards.
The statement, issued by the Office of the Inspector General of Police, outlines the Force’s ongoing efforts to professionalise police conduct, strengthen accountability mechanisms, and ensure that all officers uphold the rights and dignity of every person they encounter in the course of their duties.
“The Gambia Police Force recognises that respect for human rights is not only a legal obligation but the foundation of effective and legitimate policing,” the statement reads. “We are committed to continuous improvement in our standards, our training, and our accountability systems.”
The statement also details enhancements to the Human Rights and Professional Standards Unit (HRPSU), including increased capacity for complaints investigation and a new officer conduct reporting system accessible to the public online.
Members of the public who wish to submit complaints about officer conduct may do so through the HRPSU at GPF Headquarters, by email at hrpsu@gpf.gm, or online at gpf.email/complaints-feedback.
