Police Training School

The Gambia Police Force Training School is the institution responsible for the professional development and continuous training of all GPF officers. Located in Kanifing, the Training School provides foundational, advanced, and specialist training programmes to equip officers with the skills and knowledge required for modern policing.

Our Mission

To produce competent, disciplined, and professional police officers who are committed to upholding the rule of law, protecting human rights, and serving the people of The Gambia with integrity and professionalism.

Training Programmes

Basic Recruit Training

A comprehensive 6-month programme for all newly recruited officers covering law, human rights, physical training, firearms handling, community policing, first aid, and practical law enforcement skills. All recruits must successfully complete this programme before being deployed.

In-Service Training

Regular in-service courses for serving officers to update their skills, knowledge of new legislation, and policing best practices. Courses cover areas including criminal investigation, traffic management, public order, and leadership development.

Specialised Training

Advanced courses for officers assigned to specialised units including Criminal Investigation, Counter-Terrorism, Forensics, Marine, Canine, and Cyber Crime. Many of these courses are conducted in partnership with international policing agencies and organisations.

Leadership and Management Development

Programmes designed for senior and mid-level officers focusing on strategic management, command and control, human resource management, budgeting, and performance management to strengthen leadership capacity within the Force.

International Partnerships

The GPF Training School collaborates with regional and international partners including ECOWAS, INTERPOL, the United Nations, and bilateral partners to deliver high-quality specialised training programmes. Officers are regularly sent abroad for advanced professional development.
