Our Crime Prevention Strategy

The GPF’s crime prevention strategy is guided by three core pillars: community partnership, situational crime prevention, and intelligence-led policing. By addressing the root causes of crime and working hand-in-hand with citizens, we aim to create safer communities for every Gambian.

How You Can Help Prevent Crime

At Home

Keep doors and windows locked, especially at night.
Install quality locks and security lighting around your property.
Do not leave valuables visible in parked vehicles.
Know your neighbours and report suspicious activity immediately.
Keep a record of serial numbers of valuable items.
Never share personal or financial information with strangers.

In Your Community

Join or establish a Neighbourhood Watch group in your area.
Report crimes and suspicious behaviour promptly to your nearest police station.
Participate in community meetings organised by local police.
Mentor young people to steer them away from criminal activities.
Support ex-offender reintegration to reduce recidivism.

Online Safety

Use strong, unique passwords for all online accounts.
Never share personal information with unknown individuals online.
Be cautious of unsolicited emails, messages, and phone calls.
Verify the identity of online sellers before making payments.
Report cybercrime to the GPF Cyber Crime Unit immediately.

GPF Crime Prevention Programmes

School Safety Programme: GPF officers visit primary and secondary schools to educate students on personal safety, drug awareness, and responsible citizenship.

Business Security Advisory: Our Community Policing officers provide free security assessments and advice to business owners to help protect their premises and staff.

Women’s Safety Initiative: A dedicated programme that works with women’s groups to address gender-based violence, provide safety guidance, and connect survivors with support services.

Neighbourhood Watch: The GPF supports the establishment of Neighbourhood Watch groups across The Gambia. Contact your nearest police station to set up a group in your community.
