What is the emergency number for the police?

The national police emergency number is 116. It is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. For non-emergency matters, call GPF Headquarters on +220 422 0001.

How do I report a crime?

You can report a crime by calling 116, visiting your nearest police station, or submitting an online crime report through our website. You may also report anonymously via our tip line: +220 422 0030.

How do I obtain a police clearance certificate?

Police clearance certificates are issued at GPF Headquarters, Dobson Street, Banjul. You will need to present a valid National ID or passport, two passport photographs, and a processing fee. The certificate is typically ready within 3–5 working days.

How do I make a complaint against a police officer?

Complaints against officers can be submitted to the Human Rights and Professional Standards Unit (HRPSU) at GPF Headquarters, by email at hrpsu@gpf.gm, or by calling +220 422 0015. All complaints are investigated thoroughly and confidentially.

Driving and Traffic

How do I apply for a driving licence?

Driving licences are processed by the Traffic Department. Visit the Driver Testing and Licensing centre with your national ID, medical fitness certificate, and two passport photographs. You will be required to pass both a written and practical driving test.

What should I do after a road traffic accident?

Ensure everyone’s safety first, call emergency services on 116, and do not move vehicles until police arrive unless they are causing a hazard. Exchange details with the other party and take photographs of the scene if safe to do so.

Recruitment

How do I join the Gambia Police Force?

Recruitment into the GPF is advertised publicly when positions become available. Visit our Recruitment page for current requirements, eligibility criteria, and application procedures. The GPF does not charge any recruitment fees.

Is there an age limit for joining?

Yes. Applicants must be between 18 and 25 years of age at the time of application. Age requirements may vary for specialist or officer-level entry. Check the Recruitment page for the latest information.
