About the Unit
The Child Welfare Unit of the Gambia Police Force is a specialised division established to protect children from abuse, exploitation, neglect, and trafficking. The unit works in close collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare, UNICEF, Save the Children, and other partner organisations to safeguard the rights and welfare of all children in The Gambia.
Our Mandate
- Investigation of crimes against children including abuse, exploitation, and trafficking
- Reunification of missing and separated children with their families
- Support and referral services for child victims of crime
- Prevention education in schools and communities
- Enforcement of child protection laws and the Children's Act
- Collaboration with the Family Tribunal and social services on juvenile matters
